The Barnes and Noble bookstore in South Hills Village, Pittsburgh, PA will host
a Book Fair and Ancient Coin Museum on November 3rd, 2007.
The St. Louise de Marillac School will host a Book Fair at Barnes and Noble in South
Hills Village, Pittsburgh, on November 3, 2007. Special events for those interested in
numismatics and Classics will take place from 1:30 - 3:00 P.M. There will be an exhibit
of the Ancient Coin Museum developed by teacher Zee Ann Poerio. Mrs. Poerio serves
as a Director of Ancient Coins for Education (ACE), a member of the Ancient Coin
Collector™ Guild (ACCG) Education and Youth Programs Task Force, and Chair of the
Excellence Through Classics levels K-9 for the American Classical League.
St. Louise de Marillac School Latin Club members will act as museum docents and
show connections between ancient coins and Classics. The exhibit features ancient
coins depicting mythological creatures, Emperors and Empresses, as well as ancient
coins with animal images or zoo coins. Also included are small artifacts from the 1st
to 3rd Century including oil lamps, iron nails, and a child™ ring.
In conjunction with this event, James R. Clifford, Jr., an ACCG member and author of
Double Daggers, will discuss coins of the Roman Republic. His book is historical fiction
and involves the EID MAR Denarius coin that commemorates the assassination of
Julius Caesar. Also, Mike Aquilina, author of Fathers of the Church and dozens of
other books on Catholic history and doctrine will discuss Christian symbols on ancient
coins and ancient oil lamps. Both authors will be available to sign books at the event.
There will be free materials for children from the U.S. Mint - while supplies last. Those
attending the event may enter a free drawing to win ancient coins donated by Ancient
Coins for Education, the Pennsylvania Association of Numismatists, and the Ancient
Coin Collectors Guild. The general public is invited.
